Shawn Dow is a Moncton based flutist dedicated to helping adult students develop their musical abilities in a supportive, encouraging environment. His teaching focuses on solid technique, beautiful tone, and the confidence to truly enjoy making music.
Lesson Details
Format: Online, one-on-one video lessons
Schedule: Weekly lessons, flexible times
Investment: $40 per person
Level: Adult students 18+
Who are lessons for?
My studio is for adult students, 18 and up — working professionals, retirees, university students, and returning players. I work best with people who already have some flute under their belt (about 1 year of playing). Complete beginners tend to do better with in-person guidance to build those first foundations, so I'm not the right fit as a first-ever teacher. Everyone else is warmly welcome.
How long are lessons, and how often?
Lessons run 1 hour, scheduled weekly or every 2–4 weeks at a time that works for your schedule. Because most students are self-driven between sessions, this rhythm gives your practice room to breathe. After each lesson, I'll always send you notes and practice guidance, so you know exactly what to focus on and keep moving forward with confidence.
How does pricing and payment work?
You can find current rates in the Pricing section below. I invoice through in batches of four lesson-hours, with payment due before we begin — it helps us both stay committed to showing up. As we go, I subtract from your paid hours until it's time to renew. Lessons start once payment processes (usually quick; allow up to 21 days). All sales are final.
What's your scheduling and cancellation policy?
Need to reschedule? No problem, life happens. Just give me 24 hours' notice and we'll find a new time. However, changes made with less notice mean that hour isn’t credited back. Of course, in a genuine emergency, reach out as soon as you can and we'll sort it out.
How do we meet online?
Lessons happen over Google Meet. First, I'll send you a link before our first session. After that, we'll reuse it each time. Please only call me at our scheduled lesson times. Calls outside these times may result in ending our lessons altogether.

If online lessons are new to you, the Intro Lesson is a low-pressure way to meet, talk through your goals, and see how it all feels before committing. Loved it? Continue with regular lessons. Not for you? No hard feelings.
